HISTORY

The AMERICAN MEDICAL CAREER TRAINING CENTER has been licensed by the New York State Education Department http://www.highered.nysed.gov/bpss since winter 1996. The school now officially has two branches. The second branch has since then been established during the spring of 1999. The purpose of the school is to maintain, operate and conduct training and teaching of persons so equipping them in the trades and techniques of physicians’ aides, including

1.Medical Assistant

A Medical Assistant works under the supervision of a medical doctor performing various tasks assigned to him/her. Such clinical tasks include but are not limited to assisting the doctor w/physical exams, performing EKGs, taking blood samples, giving injections. In addition, the MA is also responsible for handling the front desk, scheduling appts, contacting & billing insurance companies etc.


2.Nursing Assistant


The Nurse Aide is also know as Nurse Assistant & Orderly (Male Nurse Aide)
The NA works under the supervision of the RN performing various tasks assigned to him/her. Such tasks include but are not limited to the nursing skills mentioned above. In addition, the NA is good listener & offers moral support to the resident as well as complete all other tasks assigned by the supervising RN.


3.Nurses Technician/Patient Care Technician

In addition to functioning as a full Nurse Aide, the NT incorporates the new skills into his/her routine i.e the NT performs EKGs, blood draws, & All Nurse Aide skills as well.


4.Physical Therapy Aide

The PTA works under the direction of the Physical Therapist and may be assigned to various tasks. Such tasks include but are not limited to aiding the patient w/therapeutic exercises & massages. The PTA is also responsible for assisting w/the front desk, Administrative duties such as sch. Appts, managing the tel, & other clerical duties assigned.


5.Medical Laboratory Technician

A MLT works under the direct supervision of Medical Lab Technologist or Medical Doctor performing various tasks assigned to him/her. Such tasks may include but are not limited to blood drawing, capillary puncture, blood testing ---SMA, CBC, FBS, etc; Urinalysis, Prep. of blood smears & stains, etc.

The school has always been innovative within the area of Para-medical training. The school rapidly recognized the need for short training courses, with specialized training within the medical field. At the present time the school will offer courses in medical assistants, nursing assistants, and nurse technician / patient care technicians.
